Bodhi Christopher

Friday, November 8, 2019

Well, it only took me three months to finally get around to posting this...but we welcomed our precious baby boy on Monday, August 5th at 3:52 pm. He was 21 inches long and 7 lbs 14 oz.

Aaron and I have always liked unique names, so when we found out we were having a boy, we both loved Bodhi right off the bat and agreed that would be his first name. His middle name (Christopher) is after Aaron's older brother, who passed away in 2010.

Aaron and I arrived at the hospital around 6:00 am for induction, and I was back in the delivery room and on pitocin by 7:30 am. About 8 hours later, Bodhi was born after only 18 minutes of pushing. This entire experience was way different than when I had Marin (which was a 21+ hour labor with almost an hour of pushing).

We had a couple of scares during the entire experience. First of all, he came out so quickly that he didn't cry or respond for what felt like AGES. They rushed him to the other side of the delivery room where the equipment is and within a minute, the room was flooded with a team of doctors and nurses while Aaron and I were in complete panic mode. He had to be given the tiny oxygen mask, but after a couple minutes (that felt like years), he was fine and back in my arms. Apparently babies can experience a bit of shock when they come out very quickly.

Then, I started hemorrhaging. I don't know how I stayed so calm, now that I look back on it, but poor Aaron was terrified. Within less than a half an hour he was worried about losing his baby and then his wife. My doctors were able to get it under control after some time, but I had to get a blood transfusion the next day. Later on, my OB told me the average blood loss for vaginal delivery is 500 mL and for c-section is about 1,000 mL. She estimated that I lost somewhere between 1,200 - 1,500 mL.

Once we were up in the recovery rooms, the nurses came in and explained that Bodhi's blood sugar was reading low (hypoglycemia) and they couldn't get it to stabilize, so he had to be admitted to the NICU. He was only there for 24 hours, but it was still a stressful experience. After all this, we were still cleared to go home 48 hours later.

Our little Bo is just the sweetest baby. He is so laid back and calm-natured, and he honestly has been that way since day one. He loves to smile, blow raspberries, and "talk" to Mommy & Daddy. He will even "sing" along with us! It looks like he is going to have strawberry blonde hair and the prettiest grey-blue eyes. Which is wild because the rest of us have brown eyes.

He is three months old now (as of Tuesday) and I can't believe time is already flying by so fast. Even faster than I remember with Marin. She just loves her baby brother. Any time he lets out a little cry she will run over and say, "Baby brudder, you okay?" or "Bowdeee, calm down". I just love seeing them interact with each other and can't wait for them to become the best of friends. xx
