Marin's Nursery

Friday, August 10, 2018

About time I got around to sharing this, since my daughter is over a year old!

Honest truth though? The nursery wasn't finished until somewhat recently because Marin was sleeping in our bedroom for the first 12 months...first in a bassinet, and then we had her crib in our room too once she outgrew the bassinet. However, we made the transition around the time she was a year old, and she is now sleeping in her own room (most of the time - lol).

When I was putting together her nursery, I really wanted a very neutral space. We aren't big into bright colors or bold patterns anywhere else in the house, so I didn't want this room to be any different. My goal was to create a space that felt natural and calm, with a touch of mid century and bohemian flare.

Ole Henriksen cruelty free

A few weeks ago, I got online and ordered a bunch of trial sized items from Ole Henriksen to take for a test drive. This skin care brand has just entered my radar as of the past few months and I've been wanting to try some things out after hearing good reviews!

I've been using everything for a while now, so I wanted to hop on here to report back and let you know what I've been liking - and considering purchasing full sized...and what I'm going to take a pass on.

EcoTools // Glow Getter Box

EcoTools cruelty free

I love the brand EcoTools - I have used their products for years (and shared a lot of them on here)...so I was super excited when they reached out and asked to send me their new Glow Getter Box. EcoTools are a cruelty free brand that sell awesome vegan makeup brushes, along with some other bath & body and personal care items.

As a disclaimer, these were gifted items. However... I only accept items from brands who's ethics I trust, and who's products I already love and spend my own money on. All opinions are my own, and I would never share anything with you guys that I wouldn't purchase or use myself! xx

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks // 2018

Nordstrom Sale picks
It's that time again- everyone's favorite sale of the year!

This is my second year shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Last year I became a card holder during the first week of the sale, just because I fell in love with a certain Topshop cardigan and wanted to get one before it sold out (crazy much??)...and then I wore it twice and it is now sitting in a pile of clothes in my closet that I've put aside to sell on eBay. -- Insert huge eye roll here --

So...this year, I wanted to limit what I bought and only pick up a couple of things that I really loved. Part of what I enjoy about the anniversary sale is that so many well-known brands that don't commonly get discounted, are part of this sale.

Here are the things that I ordered early this morning...

Marin // 11-12 months

Friday, June 22, 2018

I can't believe this is my last little update for Marin's first year! I won't be doing them as frequently now - I will probably do an 18 month and 24 month one in the future. I just realized I haven't posted at all in June...I'm sorry for the radio silence - life has once again gotten in the way of blogging. I know many of you mamas out there know how it is, sometimes blogging just takes a back seat!

Marin's first birthday was a huge success. You can read my post about her party here. I feel like she is making huge strides every week - becoming more stable in her movement, trying more things physically (like climbing on EVERYTHING), and talking non-stop...although it is in her own little language of goofy noises right now and not many actual words ;)

Marin's 1st Birthday

Friday, May 25, 2018

My little bird turned one year old last Friday!

I can't believe it - this year has totally flown by... and Marin is looking more and more like a toddler, and less like a baby every day. In all honesty, it has been really bittersweet watching my daughter get older - because while it is so exciting to see her learn and grow with each stage, I feel this underlying sadness that she is not a baby anymore. It is hard to explain, do any of you other mamas out there get this same feeling??

Anyway, we had her 1st birthday party last Sunday up in Akron with all of our friends and family. It was held at Aaron's parent's house, mainly in their backyard, which was amazing because the weather was perfect and all the kids could run around and play!

Mother's Day 2018

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

This past weekend could not have been more perfect. Even thought I was 36 weeks pregnant with Marin last year at this time...this was my first Mother's Day with her here, so it was super special. Aaron has been celebrating this day for me for quite a few years now, since I have been in Aubrey's life & helping raise her, since she was 4 years old. So it wasn't my first Mother's Day, but it was still a special one. I think this might even be my new favorite day of the year!

Cruelty free skin care

Hi friends - long time no see! I had to take a little step away from blogging for a few weeks because life got crazy. We lost a person at work for awhile, so I was picking up extra duties in the office and also clocking some major overtime on the nights and weekends. In addition to my work life exploding, we've been working on the house again and getting all the planning ready for Marin's first birthday. Busy, busy!

I wanted to share some products that I've recently used up. I like reading posts like this to learn about new things, and get people's honest opinions on them...so I hope you like reading them too. Let me know if you have tried any of these things, or what you have used up recently!

Friday Roundup 4.2

Friday, April 27, 2018

Happy Friday, my friends!

I think it is going to be a beautiful weekend here in Columbus, so we are going to spend as much time outside as possible. We want to get some yard work done at the house (well "want" is a strong term considering I loathe yard work)... but I also want to make sure we get in some time at the park with Marin.

I'm sharing some of my favorite links and items found this week on the good ole interweb - keep reading below to check them out!

Recent Beauty Haul

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

I've picked up a few new beauty items recently and wanted to share them with you guys!

It's a bit of a mixed bag - with a little bit of skin care and a couple cosmetics. I've had some time to try everything out, so I can share some opinions (so far) too. All these items have been purchased this past month at either Ulta, Target, or Whole Foods.

*These are all cruelty free brands, but I will note that Burt's Bees is owned by a parent company that is NOT cruelty free.

The Benefits of Rosehip Oil

Monday, April 23, 2018

instanaturals rosehip oil

Happy Monday friends! I wanted to share a quick skin care post with you today. In the past year or so, I feel like I've become somewhat obsessed with skin care - sometimes even more so than makeup! Maybe it's because I turned 30 this year and have really started focusing on my skin's health and using products that are high quality and actually give me results.

After hearing about the many benefits of organic rosehip oil, I decided to order some and add it into my skin care routine. At first, I was a bit confused at where it actually came from, so I did a little research. Basically, rosehip oil is different from rose essential oils because instead of being made from rose petals, it actually comes from the seeds of a fruit that is left behind after a rose blooms.

I started by adding it in the evening, but more recently, I've even been using it occasionally in the morning. When my skin feels extra dry, I put two pumps of this on before my moisturizer. So, if you were considering adding rosehip oil to your own routine, here are some reasons why it can be helpful!

Marin // 9-10 months

Thursday, April 19, 2018

It's time for another update on my little munchkin! I can't believe this is the last update before Marin is a year old (since the next one will be 11-12 months). I've been working on party plans over the last couple weeks and it's blowing my mind how fast it is coming up.

This has been such a fun couple of months - she is at the age where her personality is really starting to come out. She is determined and stubborn (like Mommy & Daddy), but also SO sweet and cuddly too. I also love watching her learn and be curious about so much...she is interested in so much, and loves trying new things and working to figure things out!

Happy Friday my lovelies! I hope you've had a wonderful week and are looking forward to the weekend. We don't have much planned, but that doesn't mean there isn't a ton of stuff to get done - always playing catch-up over here.

I'm sharing a handful of the things that have made me happy this week - I'd love to hear yours too, so please comment and share! xx

Friday Roundup 4.1

Friday, April 6, 2018

Well, we made it to Friday. Not sure how, because this has felt like the longest week ever! It looks like my poor Marin might have RSV (from daycare) and she's been home all week with a nasty cough, which has now turned into congestion and a fever. So needless to say she feels terrible and no one has been sleeping well. I'm hoping she turns a corner over the next couple of days and starts to feel better.

We had a couple plans for the weekend, but they aren't likely going to be happening now that baby is sick. So, we will probably just get some cleaning and errands done and spend the rest of the time relaxing at home and taking care of her. In the meantime, I'm sharing some of my favorite links and finds from the week below, so keep reading to the check them out!

Baby's First Easter

Wednesday, April 4, 2018

Happy April, friends! I hope you all had a lovely weekend... and if you celebrate Easter, I hope it was a happy one filled with family and celebration.

Holidays are exponentially more fun for me these days. Now that we have Marin, we get to experience the joy and excitement that you feel as a child all over again, but through her. I knew I wanted to put together a little Easter basket for her, but didn't want to go too overboard since - let's face it - she's 10 months old and can't hunt for eggs, eat candy...or all of the typical activities involved with the holiday.

But, I was still able to find a few little things that she really loved, and I thought I would share it on here for any mamas that might need a couple ideas for next year!

March Favorites

Friday, March 30, 2018

I can't believe it is already the end of March - does anyone else feel like this month just FLEW by?? We are still having colder weather here in central Ohio, but bits of spring are peeking through. I am excited for it to start warming up so we can spend more time outside with Marin & the dogs. I can't wait to take her to the park! She was too little last spring/summer since she was born in the middle of May...so I'm looking forward to lots of fun outdoor activities with her this year.

I've put together a little round up of my favorites from this past month - beauty related, fashion items, and more. And please share your favorite with me... I love hearing about what all of you are loving too! xx

Weekend Recap

Monday, March 26, 2018

Happy Monday friends :)

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Our went way too fast, as always. I wanted to share a little bit about what we were up to the past couple days, along with these ridiculous pictures of my little bird. She is too much sometimes - has such funny expressions and such a goofy personality...and some how manages to get bed head, even though she doesn't have any hair!

Happy Friday my friends! I hope you have all had a good week. It has been a chilly one here, but the sun is trying to peek through, so maybe the weekend will be a bit more pleasant :)

We have a busy weekend ahead of us...dinner tonight with some friends then a soccer tournament for my step-daughter over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Plus, I'm finding time on Saturday to squeeze in a long overdue haircut. I'm trying out a new stylist (loved my old one, but she's moving to Hawaii - jealous!) so we will see how it goes...I'm pretty particular about my hair. Anyone else the same?

Him

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

Lately, I've felt the urge to do a little husband appreciation post. There is no special day looming - our anniversary isn't until October, and his birthday isn't until December...but I don't feel like I need to wait until those days arrive to give a shout out to the man that loves and takes care of our family <3

Farmacy Green Clean Cleansing Balm

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

Farmacy cleansing balm

I've come up with a new way of sharing products I have used up...

Instead of sharing a big haul of things I have emptied at the end of the month, I'm going to do focused posts on the items. This way, I can give you a more in depth review on not only the product, but also the brands. And in the end, hopefully this format will be more helpful to you if you are searching for something new to try!

The first item I want to share that I have used up in March is Farmacy's Green Clean Meltaway Makeup Cleansing Balm.

Happy Friday my lovelies!

This work week went by pretty quickly - thank goodness. Probably thanks to the fact that we had some nice weather here in Columbus and we were able to get outside in the evenings and walk around our neighborhood with Marin and the dogs.

I'm likely going to have a pretty quiet weekend, as Aaron is up in Akron for a couple days. My goal is to get some tidying done around the house and get some much needed errands done. Isn't it frustrating how weekends are used for catch-up now and not just for relaxing? ;)

Anyway, here are a few things that made me happy this week (apart from the warm weather)...

Universal Thread

Universal Thread Target

I don't know what planet I have been living on...but I had no idea about Target's new line - Universal Thread - until I was wandering through one of their stores the other day.

I was there to buy tampons and an umbrella, but in true Target fashion, I wound up leaving with much more than I planned...

Marin // 7-8 months

Thursday, February 22, 2018

My little bird turned 9 months old this past weekend.

The months are seriously just flying by, and I can't believe we are only three short months away from her being A YEAR old! It really is crazy.

I'm loving this age - she is so loving and sweet, and it is so much fun watching her learn and master things. I love seeing her personality start to come through too! She loves being silly, especially with her Daddy.

Marin is definitely determined and stubborn too - a trait she got from both me and my husband. Not surprising to us, she starting walking two days after she turned 8 months old. I knew from the get go that it would happen early, she has wanted to be up and on the move from day one!

Friday Roundup 2.1

Friday, February 9, 2018

Happy Friday, friends!

My husband sent me the picture above this week while I was at work, and I couldn't stop laughing. He managed to get an angle that made Marin look like she was drinking a bottle the size of her whole body :)

This weekend we have plans to do a bit more cleaning out around the house. We are still in the process of decluttering and getting rid of things - with the end goal of downsizing before we list our house and move. I also want to start reading my book for February and take time to do some much needed skin care - maybe a mask or something? My skin has been feeling SO dry this week.

Below, I'm sharing some of my favorite links and things from around the internet this week - keep reading to check them out!

Marc Jacobs Beauty

Marc Jacobs Beauty

After Christmas, I had a Sephora gift card to use...so this Marc Jacobs Beauty eye shadow palette finally made its way into my makeup collection. I was intrigued after learning that Marc Jacobs Beauty is cruelty free and after seeing this palette ("Glambition") used in a video tutorial of Claire's

I figured that MJ's cosmetic line would be high quality - and I am not disappointed! From the moment I opened it up, I was impressed. The packaging, the color range, the formula of the eye shadows...I am loving it all!

The Gift of Goddess Skin

Charlotte Tilbury skin care

One of the things I have wanted to try for awhile now is Charlotte Tilbury skin care. I love so many items from her cosmetic line, and am well aware of the rave reviews that accompany so many of her skin care products - but where to start? I wasn't sure which item I wanted to try first. The Magic Cream? Wonder Glow? There are so many options.

Now this brand does come with some steep prices, but they have always been well worth my hard earned dollars - in my opinion - since the quality and performance of the products is stellar. However, I was so happy to find that Charlotte offers different skin care kits - where you can get travel sized versions of her popular products!

Baby's 1st Birthday

I can't believe it, but my little bird will be turning a year old in less than four short months. You mamas weren't joking when you said that time flies with your kids. It seems like just yesterday that I was bringing her home from the hospital and she was just a 7 lb little newborn.

It is bittersweet - because my heart hurts thinking that they grow up so fast and that she isn't a tiny baby anymore... but I also have so much joy in seeing her develop and learn, and I am so excited for each new stage that comes.

Photo // Jameykay and Arlie

I turned 30 years old today.

It kind of crept up on me... and I didn't think it would feel much different, but it does a bit. It's a little weird feeling to be out of my twenties. But, I think the best years are to come and this next decade is going to be a great one. I've had so many people say they really enjoyed this season of their lives, so I am really looking forward to it!

Best of 2017 (1)

Happy New Year, friends!

I took a break from blogging over the holidays to take a bit of a step back and spend lots of time with family. It was such a wonderful week and great way to end the year. And spending Christmas with my little bird made it that much more special! I'll share some pictures soon.

As I look back at 2017, I wanted to share what my top cosmetic items were in each major category. I've tried lots of products out this year, and these are the best-of-the-best, in my opinion. I've broken the post up into two parts, since there is so much to cover! Let's dive right in...

*Every product mentioned in this post comes from a cruelty-free company
